Tackling cervical cancer in Eastern and Central Europe:
Current status, lessons learned and the way forward

The burden of cervical cancer is disproportionately higher in Eastern and Central Europe than in other parts of Europe, both in terms of incidence and mortality.

The workshop will provide a detailed overview of the current status of cervical cancer prevention, management and treatment in 16 Eastern and Central European countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, and The Republic of North Macedonia.

In the first part latest available epidemiological data concerning burden of cervical cancer and other HPV-related cancers in the region will be presented followed by an overview of cervical cancer screening practices and their implementation as well as HPV vaccine implementation.

The second part will showcase country-specific exemplars (both positive and negative) of implementation of HPV vaccination as well as organized HPV-based cervical cancer screening programs in the region.
